A speeding motorcyclist Thursday led the California Highway Patrol on a brief chase that ended when he got into a solo crash, suffering serious injuries.
The roughly three-minute chase began when the motorcyclist refused to yield for a freeway traffic stop on Interstate 15 in the Pala Mesa area shortly after 2:30 p.m., CHP public-affairs Officer Robert Catano said.
Moments after he began fleeing, the motorcyclist exited onto state Route 76 and headed west, then pulled into a parking lot outside a flower stand and doubled back and sped off in the direction from which he’d come, Catano said.
Reaching nearby Old Highway 395, the rider lost control, crashed his black Suzuki GSXR1300R and tumbled onto the roadway, unconscious.
Medics revived the man and took him to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of major trauma. His name was not immediately available.
The crash left traffic lanes blocked at the intersection for about an hour.
