Police in Escondido conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint resulting in 21 citations, three impounded vehicles but no arrests, according to a lieutenant.

The stop was set up Friday evening at the intersection of Centre City Parkway and Decatur Way, according to Escondido police Lt. M. Kearney.

A total of 634 vehicles were screened, Kearney said. Twenty-one citations were issued, which included among other violations, two for driving on suspended licenses, 13 for driving without a license and two for driving with no insurance.

Five field sobriety tests were performed but no arrests were made, Kearney said. Three vehicles were also impounded.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
