Four motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Santee during a checkpoint operation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department that ended Saturday morning.

The sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint in the 10300 block of Mission Gorge Road ran from 8 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. Saturday, and also led to the arrest of one driver for transporting narcotics, according to Sgt. Joe Passalacqua.

Of the 811 cars that passed through the checkpoint, 37 were sent to secondary inspection. Three vehicles were impounded, one motorist was issued a citation for possession of marijuana, nine were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended or revoked license, and another was cited for a moving violation, Passalacqua said.

The checkpoint was staffed by about 15 drunk driving-trained deputies and another deputy who was conducting a saturation patrol during the operation. Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
