A 22-year-old car theft suspect was nabbed by San Diego sheriff’s deputies in Spring Valley after the stolen car collided with another vehicle during a pursuit by authorities, a sheriff’s sergeant said Saturday.

The drama began at 8:50 p.m. Friday, when deputies were dispatched to a stolen vehicle call at 10707 Jamacha Blvd., according to sheriff’s Sgt. Kotaro Murashige.

Deputies were told the stolen vehicle was heading east on Jamacha Boulevard, Murashige said. The car was later spotted heading west on Campo Road to Highway 94. A short pursuit on surface streets began and ended at the intersection of Bancroft Drive and Tyler Street when the stolen car collided with a Toyota that was making a turn, Murashige said.

A passenger in the Toyota was injured and transported to a hospital. His condition was unknown.

The suspect, 22-year-old Jose Reyes, also was injured, Murashige said. He was transported to a hospital, treated and then taken into custody.

Reyes was being booked into the San Diego County jail this morning on charges that included evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and vehicle theft, according to jail records. His bail has not yet been set. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
