A pedestrian in Oceanside was fatally struck Thursday by a car being driven by a man who was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Mission Avenue, just east of Mesa Drive, said Oceanside Police Sgt. Ignacio Lopez.
A man in is late 60’s was walking westbound on the south side of the street when he was struck by a 2002 Kia Sedona that was traveling eastbound.
Witnesses told police that they saw the car swerve into the bike lane and hit the pedestrian. The driver, who had an 8-year-old child in the car with him, pulled over and waited for emergency crews to arrive, Lopez said.
Police arrested Ricky Robledo, 42, and booked him into the Vista Detention Center on suspicion of felony drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony child endangerment.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he later died, Lopez said.
