A young man attempted to rob a 7-Eleven in Little Italy at knifepoint early Friday, but was chased off by an employee.
The 18-year-old suspect — later identified as Jesus Sanchez — allegedly demanded cash from a clerk at the convenience store at the corner of Kettner Boulevard and West Cedar Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. However, the employee refused to give up any money and chased Sanchez out of the store empty- handed, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.
Police officers who happened to be nearby saw the would-be robber run out of the store and took him into custody, Cali said.
Sanchez was later booked into jail on suspicion of attempted robbery. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to jail records.
