Investigators worked Thursday to determine what caused a fire at a duplex in Spring Valley that killed a pet bird.
The fire at the two-story residence on Correa Lane near Maya Street was reported about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to Cal Fire and the county sheriff’s department. Fire crews had the blaze knocked down in under an hour, Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said.
The homeowner was able to rescue a couple of his birds, but the heat and smoke killed a third, Bortisser said. The resident was not injured.
The sheriff’s department’s Bomb/Arson Unit was subsequently summoned to investigate, authorities said.
