A transient stabbed and robbed another man on an East Village roadside early Tuesday after trying in vain to bum a cigarette, authorities said.
The thief approached the victim near a Greyhound bus station in the 1300 block of National Avenue about 3:45 a.m. and asked for a smoke, according to San Diego Police. When the victim said he didn’t have one, the drifter knifed him in the left thigh, grabbed his messenger bag and fled to the east.
Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of apparently non- life-threatening injuries. He described the assailant as a thin, brown-haired, roughly 5-foot-11-inch white man who appeared to be about 40, Officer Dino Delimitros said.
