One man was in the hospital and a second was behind bars following a fight over a possibly two-timing girlfriend at a Fallbrook apartment complex, a sheriff’s sergeant said Wednesday.

Deputies sent to the apartment building on Alturas Road near Fallbrook Street found the victim suffering from a stab wound to his chest shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Dwain Washington. He identified his attacker as Rafael Abarca.

The suspected assailant was taken into custody as he was attempting to drive away from the scene, Washington said.

The victim was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. While at the hospital, the victim told investigators he and Abarca were fighting in the complex’s the parking garage about a woman they both claimed to be dating, Washington said.

The victim was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition as of late Tuesday night, according to the sergeant. Abarca was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
