A car went up in flames on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton Monday morning, prompting authorities to temporarily close three northbound lanes.
The car’s occupants were able to get out of the vehicle and get a safe distance away as it caught fire near the exit to Las Pulgas Road around 9:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Military firefighters were summoned to extinguish the blaze.
The burning vehicle and emergency responders were initially blocking three northbound lanes in the area, but the roadway was cleared shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, a CHP dispatcher said.
