A man who allegedly held a stranger at gunpoint for several hours in an Oceanside trailer and his suspected getaway driver were arrested after a pursuit that ended in a crash early Tuesday.
The victim called for help shortly after 3:30 a.m. and said he had been held in an acquaintance’s trailer on Sleeping Indian Road against his will by a man who busted in armed with a handgun and a shotgun. Oceanside Police Lt. Taurino Valdovinos said.
The call came in around the same time an officer, who was unaware of the false imprisonment situation, began chasing the suspects’ vehicle after they fled from a traffic stop, the lieutenant said.
Valdovinos said that after the gun-wielding suspect left the trailer, he got into the passenger side of a vehicle later determined to be the same one officers were pursuing.
The car sped east on North River Road, then north on Sleeping Indian Road before running off the road near Morro Heights Road, Valdovinos said.
The passenger was arrested immediately afterward, but the driver took off on foot. Valdovinos said a search of the car turned up two handguns and a shotgun.
A search for the second suspect ended around 5:30 a.m. when he was taken into custody with the help of a sheriff’s dog off nearby Wilshire Road, police said.
The suspects’ names were not immediately released.
