A 37-year-old pedestrian was struck and severely injured by a hit-and-run driver early Friday in Oceanside.

The pedestrian, who suffered a serious head injury, was found lying on Sunset Drive near San Rafael Drive around 3:40 a.m., Oceanside Police spokesman Ryan Keim said. The man, who was not immediately identified, was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

Keim said that based on debris and other evidence left at the scene, investigators believe the victim was struck by a black 2008 to 2015 Audi A4 sedan that should have front-end and driver’s side damage.

The victim could not describe the driver.

Anyone who saw the collision or has information on the suspect was asked to call police at (760) 435-4900.
