Arraignment is scheduled Tuesday for an Oceanside man accused of pouring gasoline on his girlfriend and setting her on fire.
Ricardo Gonzalez, 33, was arrested Friday night and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder and felony domestic violence. He’s expected in a Vista courtroom Wednesday afternoon to hear the charges against him, said Deputy District Attorney Marnie Layon.
Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, officers and paramedics went to the 3600 block of Cerro Avenue, where the woman — whose name was withheld — was treated for significant burn injuries before being transported to the UC San Diego Medical Center Burn Unit. She is expected to survive, according to authorities.
Gonzalez allegedly told police that he and his girlfriend got into a fight in front of a home and that he got a gas can from the garage, poured gas on the victim, and lit her on fire with a lighter.
Gonzalez suffered minor injuries in the attack, police said.
