An elderly woman from Rancho Bernardo, who disappeared on an errand in North County, turned up safe Sunday when her car ran out of gas on Interstate 15 some 45 miles off course.

Madeline Hennessee, 92, had left her Rancho Bernardo home at about 2 p.m. Saturday while driving her car to a scheduled oil change appointment in Escondido, according to San Diego Police Sgt. Bruce Pendleton.

She was last seen driving north on East Valley Parkway from Beven Drive in Escondido.

A California Highway Patrol officer found her on the side of the freeway, her car out of gas, at about 3 p.m. in Corona, police said. That’s about 45 miles north of Escondido.
