A San Marcos man who disappeared on the same day his foreclosed and clutter-packed home went up in flames was found Tuesday in need of medical care.
Deputies tracked down 62-year-old Duncan Kendall in Elfin Forest about 7 a.m., sheriff’s Lt. Dave Schaller said. Kendall was suffering from undisclosed medical trouble and was transported to a hospital.
Kendall’s whereabouts had been unknown since late Monday morning, when his home in the 1800 block of Rock Springs Road began burning, Schaller said.
It took firefighters about 25 minutes to subdue the flames that spread through the residence, which authorities described as a “hoarder house.” The blaze caused significant structural damage and killed Kendall’s dog.
The cause remained under investigation late this afternoon.
In the hours after the fire, deputies learned that the house had been due to be auctioned off this week. Due to the circumstances of the foreclosure and subsequent fire, Kendall was listed as an “at risk” missing person.
It was unclear exactly where sheriff’s personnel located Kendall.
