Updated at 6:58 p.m. Feb. 5, 2016:
An alleged arson fire caused an estimated $7,000 worth of damage to a Clairemont apartment Friday, leaving the man who lives there under arrest.
The non-injury blaze erupted shortly before 1 p.m. on a sofa in a second- floor unit at a residential complex in the 5300 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The resident ran off as the flames began spreading, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the flames.
Investigators determined that the fire evidently had been intentionally ignited, Swanson said. The resident, whose name was not immediately available, was taken into custody later in the afternoon.
The monetary losses were set at $5,000 to the rental unit — mostly from smoke and soot — and $2,000 to contents
