A fire of unknown origin caused an estimated $300,000 worth of damage to a home near Lake Murray late Thursday afternoon.
The non-injury blaze erupted shortly after 5 p.m. in the garage of the single-story house in the 7500 block of Seton Hall Street in La Mesa, said Sonny Saghera of Heartland Fire & Rescue.
Crews were able to contain the flames to the garage, but parts of the living quarters sustained heat and smoke damage, Saghera said.
The blaze left the sole resident of the home, a retirement-age woman, displaced. She expected to be able to stay with relatives pending repairs to her house, Saghera said.
The fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damages to the structure and destroyed about $100,000 worth of contents, including a car.
The cause was under investigation.
