A driver who led police on a high-speed chase through Otay Mesa, crashing into an SUV and injuring four people, was sentenced Wednesday to 22 years in state prison.
Isaac Luquin, 39, pleaded guilty in November to evading officers causing serious bodily injury and auto theft.
Deputy District Attorney Christina Arrollado said that last May 7, Luquin asked his estranged wife to use her car to drive him and two friends to a certain location. She agreed, and once the friends were dropped off, Luquin forced his spouse from the driver’s seat and she eventually jumped out, the prosecutor said.
Officers spotted the car later that evening and gave chase.
About 7:30 p.m., Luquin — with two passengers in the car — drove in a bicycle lane and ran a red light before slamming into the SUV containing two men at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Norstad Street.
At the time, Luquin was on probation for domestic violence against his estranged wife, Arrollado said.
