A Jeep driven by a man who ran a red light struck a car Wednesday in Clairemont Mesa, resulting in multiple fractures to the back and legs of the woman driving the car.
Authorities said the Jeep driver tried to run off, but was detained by two men who witnessed the collision.
The 44-year-old woman was turning left from Boyd Avenue to northbound Genesee Avenue when her car was hit by the Jeep, which was being driven at a high rate of speed, said police Officer Frank Cali.
The 26-year-old Jeep driver continued about 100 yards and stopped, according to Cali.
The woman and Jeep driver, who complained of pain in his neck and back, were taken to a hospital.
A third car was scraped by the Jeep. Cali said a man and child in that vehicle were unhurt.
