A pickup truck and trailer containing an Army family’s belongings and Christmas gifts was stolen Thursday, but deputies, firefighters and others donated cash, checks and gift cards to local stores to the victims, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.

Francisco Garcia contacted authorities at about 9 a.m. about the theft on Florida Street in Imperial Beach.

The department said the soldier, his wife and 1-year-old son had just moved here from Texas. Christmas gifts for the boy were among the items lost in the theft.
