A young woman sporting a tracksuit-style jacket made a failed attempt to rob an East County bank on Tuesday.

The would-be thief, who appeared to be in her mid-20s, waited in a customer line before handing a demand note to a teller at the Chase branch office in the 5500 block of Grossmont Center Drive in La Mesa shortly after 11 a.m., according to the FBI.

The clerk did not immediately react, and after a few moments the prospective robber turned around and walked out of the bank without getting any money.

Witnesses described her as a thin, roughly 5-foot-6-inch white woman with light-green eyes and long, blond-tipped brown hair. She was wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket with numbers on the left sleeve and chest, white athletic shoes and a black cap.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
