Police were investigating the death of a man who was fatally beaten in the Old Town section of San Diego on Friday night.

The man was found on the sidewalk at 2200 San Diego Avenue following a 911 call at 10:20 p.m., San Diego Police Lt. Manny Del Toro said.

Responding officers found the 35-year-old man unconscious and suffering from major trauma to his upper body, Del Toro said.

Paramedics were called and treated him at the scene, but he died on the sidewalk, Del Toro said.

The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No suspect information was available.
