A pickup truck struck and killed a tree trimmer Tuesday near Valley Center High School.
The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m., when the landscaper walked onto Cole Grade Road near Margarita Lane, crossing directly into the path of the southbound 2004 GMC Sierra, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle hit the Escondido man at about 35 mph, CHP public information Officer Jim Bettencourt said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
Intoxication did not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to Bettencourt.
“At this time, it is unknown if any charges will be filed in this case,” he said in the early afternoon.
