Authorities asked the public Tuesday for help in identifying a thief suspected of committing a rash of robberies at the same two Chula Vista doughnut shops in recent weeks.

The bandit, a heavyset man with a thin mustache, has targeted the businesses in the 600 block of Broadway and the 1000 block of Third Avenue a total of five times over the last month, according to police.

While carrying out the crimes, the robber pretends to be holding a pistol in a jacket pocket and clears out the shops’ cash registers before fleeing. Last weekend, he hit both businesses over a three-hour period.

The thief is described as a 5-foot-10 to 6-foot white or Hispanic man who weighs between 225 and 275 pounds and appears to be in his 20s. During the spree of heists, he wore black shorts, a maroon hooded sweat shirt with a Salisbury University logo on it, red shoes and a dark-colored baseball cap

Anyone with information about the crimes was asked to call the Chula Vista Police Department at (619) 691-5151 or contact the agency online.
