A two-alarm fire broke out at an Escondido condo complex on Saturday, displacing four people and their pets.

The Escondido Fire Department received a call shortly after 12:15 p.m. about a roof fire in the 2100 block of E. Valley Parkway. A contractor doing repair work on the roof sent in the initial call, according to department officials.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the attic of a two-story condo complex engulfed in flames, with the flames extending into a second unit.

Firefighters managed to knock down the non-injury blaze in 45 minutes with major damage to the primary unit, and minor fire and smoke damage to the second unit, according to the department.

Officials estimated the damage to both units at $50,000. The four residents, two cats and a dog displaced by the fire were assisted by the California Fire Federation.
