Authorities asked the public on Tuesday to keep an eye out for a man who followed a teenage girl in a suspicious manner as she jogged near her East County home.
The 17-year-old Santee resident was running in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Tomel Court on Monday when she noticed the stranger slowly trailing her in a white pickup truck that she had seen going past her house repeatedly the day before, according to sheriff’s officials.
Growing frightened, the girl started sprinting away from the vehicle, at which point the man behind the wheel accelerated, passed her and drove off, Sgt. Joe Passalacqua said.
After the teen got home, however, she saw the same truck pass by once again, the sergeant said.
The girl described the driver as an unshaven dark-skinned Latino in his late 20s to early 30s with short dark hair. His vehicle appeared to be a 1997- to 2004-model Ford F150 with a silver toolbox in the bed and a dent on the passenger side, just behind the front wheel well.
