Authorities asked the public Thursday for help in identifying a pair of thieves who used credit cards stolen during a car break-in last month to fund a shopping spree across the East County.

The vehicle burglary occurred between 5 p.m. Sept. 23 and 7:30 a.m. the following day in a residential driveway in the 10200 block of Rio Camino in Lakeside, according to sheriff’s officials.

Two people later used credit cards filched from the car to buy merchandise at Target, Walmart and other businesses in Alpine, El Cajon and nearby communities. The bills for the purchases added up to about $1,800, according to investigators.

The thieves were described as a tall, wiry white man in his early to mid-20s with short, dirty-blond hair, and a white woman in her mid-to late 20s with shoulder-length brown hair and a medium build. They may travel in a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo or similar sedan.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477, or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
