A jail inmate already charged with domestic violence was re-arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting that killed one man and wounded another at an Encanto strip mall.
Jared John Casey, 24, faces murder and attempted-murder allegations over the gunfire in the 6200 block of Imperial Avenue, according to police.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Oct. 7, about four shots sounded in the eastern San Diego neighborhood, according to police. Patrol officers arrived to find 25-year-old Albert Franco and another man in a commercial parking lot, suffering from bullet wounds to their upper bodies, Lt. Mike Hastings said.
Witnesses told investigators the shooter fled in a gray or blue four-door sedan.
Medics took the victims to a hospital, where Franco, a San Diego resident, died a short time later. The second victim is expected to survive. His name has been withheld.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
Casey was booked Sunday on a charge of injuring a spouse or cohabitant. Details of that case have not been released.
He is being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail pending arraignment for the shooting. The hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
