Police on Tuesday sought the public’s help in finding a man suspected of inappropriately touching himself while following children walking home from an Encinitas middle school.
The teenage girls told deputies that about 3 p.m. Thursday, they were on Via Cantebria, walking home from Oak Crest Middle School, when a man in a car made U-turn so he could drive alongside them, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
“The man followed the girls in his car for about five minutes,” according to a department statement. “They noticed the man was touching himself inappropriately.”
Although the vehicle’s window was open, the man did not expose himself or speak to the girls, who pulled out their cellphones to call their parents, at which time the man drove away, officials said.
The man was described as white, 20-30 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 4 inches tall with dark brown hair. He wore dark sunglasses, a dark brown or black T-shirt and blue jeans. His vehicle was described as a dark-colored station wagon with roof rails.
No one should approach the man, sheriff’s officials warned. Instead, call 911 or the sheriff’s non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200. Anonymous tips can be supplied by calling Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
