A man rolled over and crashed a car he allegedly stole near Cal State San Marcos University on Sunday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.

At about 12:30 p.m., deputies arrived at the scene and were informed the driver ran from the crash. That’s when they discovered the damaged vehicle was stolen, Lt. Dave Schaller said.

Deputies set up a search area around an apartment complex located at the end of Rush Drive. The university’s police were called to assist and they were able to corner the suspect, identified as Kevin Meza, at gun point, Schaller said.

Meza, 20, was arrested and taken to Palomar Medical Center to be treated for a head injury. He also possessed drugs, paraphernalia and stolen property in his backpack, Schaller said.
