A man escaped without fatal injuries when he was stabbed and hit with a hammer in the Colina Del Sol area of San Diego, police said on Sunday. The 37-year-old man was wounded in the stomach and back, and struck on the head with a hammer.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, the victim was in the east alley of the 4200 block of 48th Street when a car, occupied by a man and a woman, drove by, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.

The male driver got out of the vehicle and began arguing with the victim, said Heims. The argument escalated into a fight and the victim was stabbed in the back and stomach with a knife. The suspect then got into his car and drove away.

Next, the suspect came back around, stopped the car — described as a red Pontiac –and started fighting with the victim again, hitting him in the head with a hammer, he said. The suspect got into his car and left, according to Heims.

Paramedics rushed the victim to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

The suspect was described a bald, clean shaven Latino man in his 30s with one arm full of tattoos. He had no shirt on and was wearing black pants. His passenger was described as a Latino woman with long black hair.

Anyone with any information regarding the attack was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
