An attempt to stop a driver for a moving violation led to a short pursuit and an hour-long search in a Vista business park on Sunday night.

The pursuit began at 10:50 p.m. around Joshua Way and Business Park Drive and ended around Sycamore Avenue and Business Park Drive, said San Diego Sheriff‘s Sgt. David Pocklington.

“The driver fled on foot and was last seen running into a large construction yard,” Pocklington said. “During the search deputies learned the suspect’s vehicle was connected to a felony grand theft case.”

Police K-9 units located the suspect, Francisco Moedano, 31, after about an hour, hiding in a drainage ditch, he said.

Moedano is a documented gang member with a lengthy criminal history, Pocklington said. Moedano has a felony warrant for grand theft and now faces felony evading charges. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility with $50,000 bail.
