A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Monday on Interstate 5 in National City, temporarily closing three lanes.

The rider went down in the southbound lanes near Eighth Street around 6:15 a.m. and was subsequently struck by a truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash prompted authorities to close three southbound lanes in the area, along with the Eighth Street onramp. A SigAlert was issued about 7 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
