An approximately five-acre fire broke out near the Viejas Casino in the Cleveland National Forest Saturday, temporarily closing Interstate 8.

The blaze was spotted about 10 a.m., just off the westbound Interstate 8 at East Willows Road, forest officials said.

The fire spread moderately and crews shut down both sides of the interstate for several hours.

Assisted by Cal Fire, the firefighters stopped the blaze’s spread and had it 90 percent contained, authorities said.

According to 10News, the fire was sparked by a burning tire that flew off a vehicle.

Damages and injuries were not released.
