Sheriff’s deputies stopped 729 vehicles during an overnight checkpoint in Lemon Grove, but found no drivers under the influence.

However, five citations were issued for missing or suspected driver’s licenses, and nine vehicles were impounded.

The checkpoint took place from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday in the 3200 block of Lemon Grove Avenue, with five specially trained San Diego Sheriff‘s deputies checking drivers.

Weekend DUI checkpoints across San Diego County have become commonplace thanks to a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The purpose is to get drunk drivers off the road, educate drivers and make roads safer.
