A 57-year-old man suspected of robbing a downtown credit union is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

Authorities allege Roy Lee Belcher entered the San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union at 320 B St. shortly before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, walked to the teller and made a verbal demand for money.

The robber allegedly pointed a hand gun at the teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, authorities said.

Following the robbery, surveillance footage of the suspect was circulated to local law enforcement agencies and media outlets. Police said the notice is what led to the identification of the suspect and his arrest.

An officer recognized Belcher on the street at 16th and Broadway in downtown Thursday. He was arrested and booked at the San Diego Central Jail on one count of robbery, authorities said.

Bail was set at $50,000, according to authorities.

Anyone with information concerning this robbery is asked to contact the FBI at telephone number (858) 320-1800 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
