A fast-moving brush fire burning at Camp Pendleton scorched about 1,300 acres after it broke out Thursday, a base official said.

The Horno Fire broke out on the Marine base about 1 p.m. near Horno Canyon Road and Basilone Road, according to Cal Fire, which is assisting Camp Pendleton firefighters in battling the blaze. It grew from 50 acres to 600 acres in the first 90 minutes, according to reports from the scene.

No structures were immediately threatened by the fire, authorities said.

A containment figure was not available Thursday night, according to Sgt. Christopher Duncan, a spokesman for Camp Pendleton.

He said ground crews were deployed and had requested air support, but it was unclear if any arrived on scene.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Duncan said.
