The two San Diego men killed in a plane crash in the Los Padres National Forest were identified Sunday by the Santa Barbara County coroner’s office.
Pilot David Martz, 58, and his passenger Greg Blanco, 56, were en route to San Diego from the San Luis Obispo Airport when their rented Cessna went down around 9 p.m. Thursday in a remote area of the forest near Don Victor Trail, said Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover.
Investigators believed that the plane had engine troubles, Hoover said.
Due to the remoteness of the area, the plane and the two bodies were not found and removed until Friday morning.
Martz and Blanco were both found dead at the scene, Hoover said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were called to investigate.
