Oceanside Police are seeking witnesses to a three-vehicle crash Monday that left five people injured near the El Camino Country Club.
An investigation was underway into the collision along Oceanside Boulevard near El Camino Real shortly before 5:30 p.m., and police said it had not been determined whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
A 2003 Chevy Impala was headed west in a simulated median, turned into the eastbound fast lane and collided head-on with a 2010 Mazda. The Chevy sedan then crashed into a 1993 Toyota pickup truck that had been behind the Mazda, according to Oceanside police Sgt. Ignacio Lopez.
The Mazda’s severely injured driver was trapped inside the wreckage. Fire crews freed him and he was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in critical condition to be treated for head trauma, a broken arm and a broken leg, Lopez said.
A passenger in the Mazda was knocked unconscious in the crash. She was taken by ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with cuts and pain to her legs, Lopez said.
The Impala overturned and its driver was also unconscious. He was also flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, and Lopez said his condition was not known.
A passenger in the Impala was taken to Tri-City Medical Center with a complaint of pain, according to the sergeant.
The pickup truck’s driver sustained a cut to her face and complained of chest and abdomen pain. Lopez said she was taken to Palomar Medical Center by ambulance.
Police asked anyone who saw the crash or had saw the events leading up to it to call (760) 435-4882.
