Investigators searching the charred ruins of an allegedly crime-plagued Olivenhain mansion after a fire tore through it early Thursday discovered a dead woman inside.
The blaze at the 3,500-square-foot Rancho Encinitas Drive home erupted for unknown reasons about 3:45 a.m. It took firefighters from several area agencies over an hour to get the intense flames under control.
Arson detectives summoned to investigate the blaze were collecting evidence inside the charred house when they came across the unidentified woman, sheriff’s Lt. Mark Moreno said. They also found the corpse of a dog.
A resident of the home who was able to get out of the burning structure was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of burns and cuts. His name and condition were not released.
Last December, authorities served a warrant at the home in response to numerous complaints about drug-related activity and other suspicious activities there. Six people, including the homeowner, were arrested on suspicion of various offenses, including narcotics crimes.
Sheriff’s personnel conducted several more searches of the premises over the next several months, making more arrests for alleged drug- and warrant-related offenses, Lt. Mark Moreno said.
