Investigators were working Thursday to determine what sparked a fire at a metal recycling business in the Barrio Logan neighborhood.

The non-injury blaze at SA Recycling, 3202 Main St., erupted shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews got the flames under control within a half-hour, but had to remain at the scene until about 1:30 a.m. to make sure all hot spots were thoroughly doused.

The fire destroyed about $50,000 worth of recyclable materials being stored at the site, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said. No structural damage was reported.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation late Thursday afternoon.
