A man who allegedly raped an East County woman at her home last month and then pilfered some of her possessions was behind bars Thursday.
Members of a regional fugitive task force arrested Roberto Ricardo Ortega, 22, in a City Heights neighborhood on Wednesday, according to sheriff’s officials.
On June 17, Ortega allegedly confronted the victim outside her home on Berry Street in Lemon Grove, then forced her inside and sexually assaulted her before stealing some valuables and fleeing.
Ortega was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of burglary, rape, sodomy, forcible oral copulation and petty theft. He was being held on $1 million bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Authorities did not disclose what led them to identify Ortega as the alleged perpetrator in the case.
