Two men were wounded Thursday in a predawn shooting near Balderrama Park.

The victims and a third companion were walking toward a home in the area of Bush and Santa Barbara streets in Oceanside when they encountered a second group of men shortly after 3:30 Thursday morning, according to police.

During an ensuing argument, one of the men confronting the victims pulled a pistol, Lt. Taurino Valdovinos said. As the victims fled, the gunman opened fire, wounding two of them.

The injured men, both from Oceanside, were taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to their legs. The third victim, a Vista resident, was unharmed, Valdovinos said.

The reason for the fight was unclear. The victims, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, were uncooperative with investigators, the lieutenant said.

No arrests in the case had been made as of late morning.
