A pedestrian jumped in front of several cars State Route 76 near Pala, and eventually was struck and killed near the Pala Indian Reservation.

The California Highway Patrol said the man, 59, stood in the middle of the 76 east at Bodie Boulevard and was hit around 4:50 a.m.

The driver of the car, 23, told CHP officers that she saw the victim but could not avoid him.

According to CHP, the woman called police from Harrah’s Casino in Valley Center, which is about seven miles away.

The man, who witnesses said jumped into traffic multiple times, died at the scene.
