Authorities are holding a 22-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a family member at a Fourth of July party in Logan Heights.
Joseph Henry Garcia was arrested at the Otay Mesa border crossing Sunday night and booked into county jail for allegedly stabbing 54-year-old Hermeneglido Parra.
Officers responding to a 911 call went to the 3100 block of National Avenue, near Memorial Park and east of Barrio Logan, shortly before 7 p.m. on the evening of the Fourth. They found an unconscious male with multiple upper body stab wounds.
Paramedics rushed to the scene but Parra was pronounced dead a short time later, San Diego Police Lt. Paul Rorrison said.
Early police investigations revealed that a fight broke out between the victim and a family member. Garcia immediately fled the area after Parra was stabbed, Rorrison said.
