A person walking along Interstate 5 in Carlsbad was fatally struck by a vehicle early Thursday.
The pedestrian was struck while heading south on the side of the northbound lanes near Carlsbad Village Drive shortly before 4 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle’s driver stopped after the crash, a CHP dispatcher said.
The CHP closed one northbound freeway lane for a time, but it was reopened around 5:40 a.m.
