A speeding motorcyclist attempting to pop a wheelie at an intersection in the Logan Heights neighborhood collided with an oncoming car, a police officer said Tuesday.
The 23-year-old rider ran a red light at South 32nd Street and Oceanview Boulevard around 9:45 p.m. Monday, San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said. He crashed into a sedan as he pulled his bike up onto its back wheel.
Delimitros said the car’s 30-year-old driver did not see the motorcyclist because of the speed at which he was traveling and because his headlight was shining into the air.
The rider suffered major, life-threatening trauma to his head and body, Delimitros said.
