A man was attacked by a pit bull leading to a brawl near San Diego’s New Central Library in downtown Saturday, police said.

Officer Frank Cali said three homeless men started fighting around 10th Avenue near Park Boulevard at 12:15 p.m. More people joined in the fight as the victim retreated inside the library. He was treated by paramedics for his bite wounds, Cali said.

The dog and his owner were detained. San Diego County Animal Services were called to the scene.

According to Cali, the number of people involved and injured has not been confirmed, but two people were described: a black man and a man holding a bat.
