A man who allegedly attacked a police cruiser jumped off a bridge in the University Heights neighborhood early Monday, possibly in an attempt to avoid arrest.

Officers en route to an unrelated call came upon the suspect shortly after 3 a.m., according to San Diego Police and the California Highway Patrol. The suspect struck the police car’s door.

He jumped from the Washington Street bridge, possibly in an attempt to get away, and landed in the dirt off state Route 163, San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said. It was not immediately clear whether the man was injured.

The suspect then tried to fight with the officers but was subdued with a stun gun and taken into custody, Delimitros said.

Emergency vehicles were blocking one northbound lane on state Route 163, according to the CHP.
