A brush fire along State Route 67 in Lakeside scorched about 3 1/2 acres in about 90 minutes Saturday before it’s progress was halted.
The so-called Slaughterhouse Fire was reported about 4:30 p.m. along the southbound lanes on the west side of the freeway near Slaughterhouse Canyon Road.
Cal Fire reported at 5:51 p.m. that the fire’s expanse was stopped. Just after 8 p.m., the agency announced the fire was 100 percent contained.
No injuries or structure damage were reported.
Three helicopters were deployed as Cal Fire units and counterparts from Santee and Lakeside battled the flames, which prompted a temporary closure of the freeway.
